i went to go see inbar a.k.a public transit tonight. it was pretty rad, except that for some reason, whenever a friend of mine says they're playing, i really don't want to miss them so i show up pretty much at the time they tell me to. of course, the show never starts then so i end up sitting around for a couple hours with people i didn't know. today, i showed up at like an hour and a half ahead of time. woooo. but whatever, it was worth it. it was also raining like crazy, and i got soaked, but at least it dried pretty quick. yay linen shorts.
anyway, i also printed a test print today on my aqua tee, the print came out pretty good. american apparel has been a big jerk recently, and i really wish another company would step up and make some decently priced non-sweatshop clothing without the stupid advertising that makes me gag. also, they need to be more consistant. i was going to use a lime shirt that was a totally beautiful color and came out amazingly, but then american apparel decided that they weren't going to carry it anymore. almost two years i've been wholesaling with them, and all the sudden they change colors. losers. maybe they're too busy with their new courderoy hotpants or the tank thongs or the crappy sunglasses. jerks. if they'd concentrate on carrying a full line of colors in several materials, i'd be happy.
lastly, i didn't win the lottery on last saturday, and i forgot to buy a ticket for tonight, but i'm really hoping i win soo, so that i can open my arcade asap. so everyone be sure and remember me in your prayers. say something like "dear awesome and powerfully radical god, please let rafael win the lotto for at least a few million so that he can open an totally rad arcade and i can go hang out and have fun for free because i'm praying for him now so he'll hook me up. amen. oh, and p.s. i want a pony".
we won first tonight! yeah, we're bomb like that. the question that won it for us? how many novels has danelle steele written? we went with the douglas adams answer, 42. fortunately, our nerditude won it for us, as the answer was in the 60's. other highlights: the mexican round (yeah, we rocked it, except for kid frost), the music round (all but the bobby darrin song), and the texas rangers. we won a wicked awesome prize this time too, 50 dollars in movie passes! i hope i can convince everyone to come and see hot fuzz, i've been trying to see it for so long.
anyway, other crap- i bought the fabric for my tables at the fair, i've got some new design test prints done, and i'm gonna order the shirts hopefully this wed. i think things are pretty much on schedule. i also read the fine print and saw that if it were to hurricane or even just rain and be crappy out during the craft fair, i get no money back. that would suck. so everyone, pray for sunshine.
so we came in second tonight at trivia...it was a bloodbath. that was seriously the sloppiest quiz i've ever partaken of, and yet, somehow we pulled out a place job for 15 bucks. i sort of helped seal the deal tonight, by A. remembering that the team on the warriors in overalls is innappropriately named "the punks" and B. sort of getting the pinball machine question right (apparently pinbot says "now i can see you" just as his bride does, but the words bride of pinbot were closer than the other teams terminator, so we won). we really need to pick up another person of varied knowledge, someone to fill the gaps, so we're taking applications. and by applications, i mean bribes.
anyway, i also just had a real stress situation, because i just booked my plane tickets to NY. i have to tell you, i'm seriously like 1 for 8 on booking plane tickets. i almost ALWAYS screw up and have to pay some fine to fix it...if i messed up this time, i've got a plan to get my card rejected. anyway, it looks like i'll be there from the 12th of june to the 24th. i have to come back on a crappy sunday time because i really really want to be at my friends Mannequin Makeout's last show.
ALSO, i now have a new phone! i am pretty craptasticly poor and have a prepaid cell plan (it actually makes sense if you see my budgeting, way way cheaper than getting a normal plan), but seriously, it was cheaper than a beeper. i think straight beepers will come back into style in the next couple years, just watch. when archeologists dig up the internet tens of years from now after hipster fashion causes the end of society as we know it, they'll see me saying this and know that i am a straight genius. so if you want my #, be sure and give me an email, don't just leave a comment on this blog. i never check that crap.
ONE LAST THING: i also am going to be writing quiz rounds! i'm super stoked about that one, i wrote two today that i was pretty proud of. apparently i need to cut my words per question down a lot, but i'll get where i need to be eventually. it's finally an outlet for my days on end of wiki-wiki-wiki-wiki ing, so i'm really happy. i can finally tell my mom that being a nerd pays.
tonight krisana and i went bowling! weeeeeee! i rolled a three hundred! unfortunately, it was across three and one third games, but still! wooooo!
anyway, i've also been super busy working on stuff. i've got a COMPLETELY NEW DESIGN in the pipe! it's even summery themed, i'll post more once it's done. i've give you this hint though, it's got to do with the thing rob heater and i did most while he was visiting.
i also applied for a job with the geeks who drink as a quizmaster for trivia. i don't know how well i did, but i hope i get a job. if not, i'd like to apply to write trivia rounds, as i am a trivia genius.
anywayz, it's totally summer now. i've busted out the shorts and bought a new AA shirt (it's aqua! totally summer) and i've been scoping my plane tix. i'll be there so crazy soon! i hope my NYC peeps have time to chill. or rather, i hope they make time to chill, because i'm worth it.
peace out!
so i am at work today for the second day in a row, and i realized i haven't been updating this blog as much as it needs to be. so i'll try to make a mega awesome post.
my friend rob just left monday after his week stay here in denver. it was lots of fun having him out for a visit, i hope he had a rock time. we went all over the place...the best parts were the flying dog brewery, the baseball games, and the breckenridge brewery, in that order. if you live in denver, definitely stop by flying dog for the tour, they were the most excited about showing people around and giving away free (normally pricey) beer.
now that rob's gone, i am beginning to realize i don't really have any friends of that caliber out here yet. i don't know why it's taking so long to make quality friends here, but i have theories. it makes me simultaneously excited to know i'm going to NYC in june for a good visit, and sad because i realize that i live in denver now, so i need to get over it.
i've also been working on several redesigns of older illustrations, getting them prepped and ready to be printed. most of you should be happy to know that the worms logo thing from the front page will soon be a shirt (that's been requested a ton), as well as some older designs that no one ever saw. i'm also thinking of updating a few of the single color designs because i've been told that some people prefer them. of course, the people who prefer them didn't phrase it so subtley, i believe it was stated "your new designs suck. bring back the old ones".
more hat patterns are on their way too. i haven't been selling that many through the site, and i'm not sure if it's because you can physically try on the hat or if it's the pricing or what. the prices MIGHT come down, as each hat is expertly handmade by the handsome mama and we can control that kind of thing.
also, maybe not too soon, but sometime, i'll be adding the jewelry to the site. if you haven't seen the stuff i'll be selling, it's amazing.
anyway, it's beginning to look like summer for realz, which is grand. i'm predicting some nice summer's evening out in someone's back yard coming up pretty soon, which is always the best.
so i just now got word that i got accepted to the renegade craft fair! i spent all day thinking that they were accepting people today, and i hadn't gotten an email. i just assumed i must have not gotten picked. weird. anyway, i'm glad i did, because now i can justify a nice visit to NYC.
now i'm off to see transistor radio, if i haven't missed him.

so i FINALLY finished that job i was working on. 4000+ bulbs, 4 weeks, lots of up and down the ladder. it was rough. but now i have a bunch of cash to (hand up on your hip) dip into for my trip, which is rad. plus, our boss, AKA my dad's cousin, took us out to hooters ( after work tonight for a celebratory meal and beer. it was pretty awesome, not because it was hooters but because he told us all these rad stories. he loves to tell stories, and they're always guaranteed to be something i haven't heard before. anyway, so now i'm finally back to my normal tues. and sun. schedule of work! i can get some stuff done for my craft fair, assuming i get into it. i hear back tomorrow (friday).
so the museum isn't doing so hot, and they've asked people to volunteer to resign. they'll get a pretty sweet severance package and whatnot, and today was the last day to do it. everything was calm till about after lunch, then BAM! everyone is resigning left and right. i'm suprised anyone is staying... i'd totally have taken the package and gotten a job elsewhere. unfortunately, since i'm just a peon (pee-on) and i get no benifits of any kind it wasn't an option. but then, i'd say being able to play metal slug at work is a benifit all in itself.
there is nothing sadder in this world that getting home and not having any friendly words to read before going to bed. actually, there are a lot sadder things, that's stupid. but it still is some degree of sad. i did have a tee shirt waiting for me from this guy that wanted to trade, which was rad. it's actually pretty nicely done. i keep typing like 4 sentences, then erasing them all and starting over. i think this entry sucks, and i hereby disown it.
yet another demoralizing loss tonight...it was worse than usual because we brought what we thought was our A game, and yet, we couldn't even break the top 5. makes me kinda want to get another hobby, like huffing or speedballs. anywayz, i got 2 bonus round questions tonight, both on my own knowledge, but even that knowledge can't fill the gaping hole of suck that this loss brought on. i guess the only thing to do from here is cut of pinky fingers yakuza style and light a candle at mass to the patron saint of trivia, alex trebek.
this has been the first 40 hour work week (actually, the second, last week was one too) i've worked since...well, since i quit moma, so a year and a half ago. it's pretty crappy. changing lights is boring but not horrible. i broke our first light last night at the end of the night...we had made it through probably 2500 bulbs before i dropped it. and today i'm here at the museum, reading about snails (did you know they eat with a radula?)" /> and messing up stupidly easy questions from "are you smarter than a fifth grader" (what is the only country that is also a continent? i couldn't think of the right answer, mostly because i've always been taught that the "continent" of australia was named oceania and included new zealand and micronesia). so pretty much i'm an idiot.
oh, and i'm also applying to the renegade craft fair for this summer. i already submitted my application, i'll hear back by april 6th apparently. hopefully i get in, it's a good excuse to go hang with the NYC homies this summer.
so i started this part-time short-term job last night. i'm changing light bulbs in this office building up by flatirons crossing. it's exactly as exciting as it sounds. we work from 4-12:30pm normally. last night we actually worked from about 6 till 10:45, and we changed roughly 240 bulbs in that timespan, which is actually less than an eighth of a floors worth. i told my brother before we started that i believed i was prepared for anything bad that might happen while we were working in that office building, as i have seen die hard no less than 4 times, and i know as long as i keep my shoes on i should be fine.
anyway, hopefully i'll be able to work tues-weds-thurs only, because i have my other job on fridays, and monday night is off limits.
BAM! fluffy kittens back in top form this week, and i almost forgot to brag about it here. the competition was so fiece, we thought we were in 4th place right up until they announced that we won. as much as i'd like to think that it was primarily my disturbingly vast knowledge of video game music, i have to admit britts dude (i forgot already..mike? matt? one of those names) was a big asset. also, i hope we NEVER have to sit all the way in the back again...i had 3 of those bonus round questions nailed, only to have them stolen because it takes forever to run up from there. lame. next week i'm showing up at 3 to get that cushy table up front.
anyway, that win puts us tied for first with el fantismo in for the monthly prize of a snowboard (!.
also, if you missed it, here's my ode to our victory.
so trivia night last night wasn't as dissapointing as usual. we pretty much cleaned up on the first 5 rounds, tanked the 6th, then rocked the 7th and 8th. one of the questions was about naming the two sports cars put out by chevy, which the quiz dude (who wasn't our normal rocking guy) went on to falsely clarify as CURRENTLY PRODUCED. the guy brittany was with (sorry guy, forgot your name) went on to challenge the question at the end, and it apparently bumped us from 4th to tied for 2nd with my sibling rivalry of a team, lumpy lady stumps. but el fantismo...sigh. i hate them like i hate a dog.
i had a dream last night that has sparked a whole train of thoughts today. i had a dream that i was supposed to go to some show here in denver, but i told whoever i was supposed to go with that i wanted to draw instead.
today, i've been at work all day, being bored, so i've been thinking...why aren't there events where people get together and draw? everyone could come, and bring anything they want to use to draw, or there could be newspring and markers and inks and pencils and stuff, and everyone gets a spot on the floor and draws? i think i'd enjoy it a lot. everyone likes to draw something, it seems...
well, as a celebration of finally getting the hats online, i've decided to clear out my older stock. i've been collecting unique shirts, color swaps, and some of the older designs that i just got back from consignment stores. these shirts are WAY cheaper than usual, so grab them while you can!
EDIT: be sure and specify which color you'd like in the "comments" section of paypal.
the fencer! this is a color swapped version on a gold shirt.
spaceman! i just got a shipment back from a consigment store of this. people have been asking if i was going to have any of the old prints, so here you go!
well, they're here! the hats are online and ready to sell. these are handmade hats, made in a classic cyclist style. the short caps are made of lightweight cotton or lycra, and the long style is double layered for warmth and reversablilty. they've been in the works for quite a while now, so i'm really glad to finally have them on the site.
why oh why do we have to suck at trivia? we did so good our first two outings. sigh...maybe it's in part due to the fact that we haven't been able to get our dream team back together, and maybe it's also partially because we just haven't had our hearts in it. i think our team needs a training montage, preferably one set to a motivation rock song that is about how hard we're working. and then, at the end of the montage, we'll all be sitting in a bar in sweatsuits toasting frosty mugs of beer . and in reality, then we'd go to trivia that night and get blown out by el fantismo or nerf herder. yay.
this morning on the news, they were running a segment on how more and more people are having cosmetic surgery on their pets, such as getting their ears stiffened to stand up straight, or their noses tattooed to make them darker, or getting neuticles implanted in their dogs after they get neutered. the highlight of the segment was when a doctor was explaining why she implanted the neuticles (apparently, she was somehow involved in the operation) and how happy she was with them. her quote was something like "they look so real, and they feel only a little bit different". gross.
god, i'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, but if i were you, i might have saved this for the moments before the apocalypse, to let the world go out in a blaze of glory. maybe you've got something better on tap...like zombie james brown!
man, we're terrible. 4th place...though in fairness, there were a ton of teams last night. but still. also, we would have been way better off going with our gut on some of those multiple choice questions, instead of overthinking them. sigh. well, next week is all movies in honor of the oscars. hopefully i can clean up on that, and also hopefully my dang team shows up.
oh, and the bonus question i got last night was "babe, pig in the city".
so i'm back from san francisco. i've actually been back a day now, but whatever. it was amazing! the seafood! the hills! the views! the weather! the girls on the trolley talking about how their baby's daddy has skidmarks in his underwear and doesn't change his socks!
i walked a lot. i realized last night that even though i ate everything and anything i wanted to, i still managed to lose 2.5 pounds. i didn't get to see the golden gate bridge, but then, i'd imagine it's a bit like seeing the statue of liberty. kinda cool while you're there, but not something to do more than once.
my friends galen and cory were both great too. it's so nice when you don't see someone for a long long time, and then as soon as you're together again, things take off from right where they were. also, cory decided i'm a "goody two-shoes" because i get flustered when people around my are misbehaving and it might get me in trouble. i choose to believe that i am just better at picking my times to do bad things, like when no one will notice.
anyway, the trip was good. i felt like i got a good persepective from it, and i feel like denver is an alright place for me to be right now. it might not be as dramatic as san francisco or new york, but then, it isn't nearly as expensive. and the people are all right. sort of.
(i'm not sure anyone will get the reference in the title. it's a zappa song that is stuck in my head from when i was a kid)
